Founded on October 1, 1990, John’s Pharmacy began as one man’s dream to continue serving patients when the chain pharmacy he worked for closed its doors. Over a single weekend, John McMullin, with the help of his family, transformed the space into what is now a community staple. From that moment, personalized care and community connection have been at the heart of what we do.
Our reputation grew—and so did our reach. In 2009, John’s son-in-law, Abe Funk started working in the family business. Abe and his wife, Emily, have continued the legacy of John’s Pharmacy as the owner. They have led the way in expanding John’s Pharmacy locations across Southeast Missouri, establishing services like long-term care, custom compounding, and free local delivery. Every step taken is driven by one goal, going the extra mile for patients as a pharmacy that provides personalized pharmacy solutions people trust.

Timeline of Growth and Dedication
1990
John’s Pharmacy opens its doors in Cape Girardeau.
2005
John’s Rx begins operations to serve long-term care communities.
2009
John’s son-in-law, Abe, graduated from pharmacy school and came to work in the family business.
2015
We began expanding beyond our traditional Cape Girardeau market to strengthen our growing Long-Term Care business operations and ensure more timely support for our facilities when needed. A key milestone in this expansion was the opening of Gideon Pharmacy in 2015.
2016
Acquired Dille’s Discount Pharmacy in Poplar Bluff and Simmons and Graham Pharmacy in Charleston.
2020
Completed the merger of Letassy Drugs in Poplar Bluff with Dille’s Discount Pharmacy.
2021
Acquired Heartland Family Pharmacy and later merged Heartland into our Cape Girardeau location.
2022
We acquired Puxico Pharmacy and started Altenburg Pharmacy for our Meds@ONCE patients, rebranding all pharmacies under John’s Pharmacy in 2022.
2023
John’s Pharmacy Kids opened in Cape Girardeau.
John’s Pharmacy Kids provides affordable and reliable childcare exclusively for John’s Pharmacy staff. Licensed to care for up to 18 children, this daycare offers significant benefits to employees, while addressing a critical community need for accessible childcare. As one of the only family pharmacies in the state to have a dedicated child care program, this initiative earned recognition from the Missouri Governor for its dedication to supporting families and strengthening the community.
2024
The new John’s Rx Long-Term Care location in Farmington expanded our ability to serve your needs.
2025
In 2025, John’s Pharmacy Kids was featured in a CDCTC campaign, highlighting its dedication to providing accessible childcare and supporting employees’ work-life balance.
