LTC Staff Pharmacist - Cape Girardeau

Reports To:
Supervisor 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Expedites prescription processing by performing all duties necessary and allowable, by policy or law. 
  • Receives new and refilled prescriptions from customers for filling. 
  • Verifies name and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name. 
  • Obtains from the prescription files those prescriptions which have been requested to be refilled. 
  • Prepares labels for new/refilled prescriptions. 
  • Accommodates customers when they arrive to pick up prescriptions. 
  • Processes cash register transactions for new and refilled prescriptions. 
  • Ensures necessary communications are provided to the customer, such as instructions, side effects and medication descriptions. 
  • Arranges customer consultations with Pharmacist, when requested. 
  • Procures signatures from customers for all prescriptions received. 
  • Answers incoming calls and directs to Pharmacist when appropriate, such as new prescriptions, questions about medication, judgmental decision, etc. 
  • Completes and processes third-party documents. 
  • Fills prescription refills or new prescriptions. 
  • Files patient profiles.

  • Processes incoming orders to determine that items ordered were shipped and that items shipped are the same as items invoiced to the Pharmacy.

Staff Pharmacist - Cape Girardeau

Reports to:
The staff pharmacist reports directly to the Pharmacist in Charge/Pharmacy Manager.  Staff pharmacist can additionally report to the Director of Operations in coordination with the Pharmacist in Charge, regarding any issue/concern that cannot be resolved by the Pharmacist in Charge.

Job Overview:
The staff pharmacist is the patient advocate and serves as a resource to advise prescribers for the best available pharmaceutical products or services for his/her patient. The staff pharmacist proactively assures that the customers’ prescriptions are filled accurately and timely, and that the customer is counseled appropriately with all pertinent information on the use of their medication. The staff pharmacist also serves as a direct and accessible resource to the pharmacy technicians they supervise in day-to-day workflow.  They are readily available and willing to support the Pharmacist in Charge in any capacity they are asked.  The staff pharmacist ensures all federal, state, and local laws are being followed as well as company policies and procedures regarding all pharmacy operations.  They are the liaison between pharmacy technicians/other pharmacy staff and the Pharmacist in Charge, regarding day-to-day workflow communication.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Workflow Responsibilities:
    1. Verifies proper storage and handling of all medications, including storage units (refrigerators/freezers) and ambient temperature monitoring
    2. Ensures accuracy of prescription data entry and makes corrections as warranted
    3. Ensures timely and accurate prescription filling performed by pharmacy technicians
    4. Verifies purchasing is completed daily and inventory remains at an acceptable level, as defined by company standards
    5. Ensures necessary legal documentation during all steps of filling prescriptions to meet legal requirements and reduce audit risk
    6. Ensures all workflow areas have appropriate coverage on a day-to-day basis
    7. Ensures proper opening and closing of facility
    8. Ensures the delivery of the Inspection Binder to Inspector immediately upon request and helps aid in an inspection
    9. Is familiar with pharmacy record storage and can readily retrieve pharmacy records promptly when requested to do so
    10. Maintains adequate knowledge and participates in clinical services when appropriate
  2. Suggest improvements to the Pharmacist in Charge regarding:

Tactical Work:

  • Communicates with physicians and other medical personnel as required in daily pharmacy operations
  • Works with Pharmacist in Charge and Senior Technicians to ensure proper workflow staffing in response to unexpected staffing shortages (sick coverage, weather events, employee emergencies, etc.) and lunch coverage
    1. On-call pharmacist receiving staff call-outs are to report to the appropriate Pharmacist in Charge
  1. Report to Staff Pharmacist/Senior Technician if PIC is unavailable
  • Be the patient’s trusted health care advocate
  • Recommends alternative pharmaceutical therapy when appropriate to prescribers and patients
  • Identifies therapy opportunities that are both beneficial to the patient and the pharmacy while in workflow
  • Communicates therapy changes to both prescribers and patients and follows through on such requests
  • Ensures prescription accuracy at every step in the workflow process
  • Performs final check on all prescriptions and performs prescription DUR processes for each prescription fill/refill
  • Maintains awareness of prescription margins at the verification step for every prescription, and takes necessary steps to mitigate negative prescription margins
  • Counsels patients on the appropriate use of their medications using available drug references as needed
  • Teaches patients on the appropriate use of medical devices that deal with accurate medication delivery/administration
  • Follows federal, state, and local laws, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures regarding controlled substances
  • Advises customers in the store or over the phone relating to OTC products, nutritional supplements, and prescription needs
  • Assures that all pharmacy operations are conducted safely and according to pharmacy law
  • Conducts medication reviews as requested by patients or as identified in Outcomes/MTM
  • Conducts clinical services as organized by the Clinical Service Staff Pharmacist or at facility request
  • Becomes trained to give immunizations and follow pharmacy procedure to give immunizations
  • Helps maintain individual immunization requirement folder and required documentation
  • Becomes proficient in and follow current MTM practices performed in the pharmacy including Outcomes, Equipp, etc.
  • Ensures the proper opening and secure closing of facilities, monitors secure and proper handling of the money and daily receipts, verifies daily reports, and daily computer backup performed
  • Maintains knowledge of prescription compounding and durable medical equipment
  • Provides input and assistance to any and all members of the organization toward the achievement of stated pharmacy goals
  • Assists Senior Technicians in the resolution of any hardware or software issues
  • Identifies training gaps and relays them to the Pharmacist in Charge in a constructive manner for improvement of the pharmacy team
  • Fosters an environment of team success and positivity
  • Handles customer service requests outside normal business hours as required and ensures patient/facility needs are met
  • Is responsible for finding individual shift coverage in both emergency and planned work absences outside of approved vacation time
    1. Sends out group communication (e.g. text) in last-minute emergency absences/illness for immediate shift coverage
    2. Works with other pharmacists to trade weekend/holiday shifts if needed
  • Identifies and corrects billing errors in day-to-day workflow
  • Performs other duties at the request of the Pharmacist in Charge
  • Participates in community events such as vaccination events and community fairs when able
  • Reports any medication error or external event to the Pharmacist in Charge for written documentation and corrective action/follow up
  • Adapts to the ever-changing demands of pharmacy as a profession and willing to adapt roles/responsibilities as requested by supervisor(s)

Delivery Driver - Poplar Bluff

Reports To:
Delivery Driver Supervisor 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Drives fleet vehicle to deliver facility’s pharmacy products and medical supplies to customer’s home or place of business. 
  • Utilizes iPad to record delivery information. 
  • Records delivery information on daily delivery record. 
  • Issues or obtains customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery. 
  • Calls customers to establish delivery time or confirm special instruction(s), if applicable. 
  • Listens to and/or resolves delivery/service complaints. Appropriately de-escalates any complaints that cannot be resolved. Relays all concerns to supervisor. 
  • Collects or picks up rejected or recalled pharmacy products. 
  • Picks up weekly order from Sam’s Club. 
  • Loads fleet vehicle. 
  • Cleans inside/outside of fleet vehicle. 
  • Performs routine maintenance on fleet vehicle. 
  • Follows all federal, state, and local traffic laws. 
  • Performs daily/weekly cleaning and maintenance tasks.
