Technology is constantly improving the accuracy and efficiency of pharmacy services.
We have built our business on providing fast, personalized service and high-quality patient care, but like many pharmacies in America today, we have more people taking more medications. By implementing innovative pharmacy technology, we are helping to ensure patient safety, compliance and better outcomes.
We believe in leveraging technology to do what it does best – perform repetitive tasks quickly and accurately – so that we can do what we do best – offer personal “extra-mile” service to our customers.
We’re proud to be the first independent pharmacy in Cape Girardeau to offer next-generation medication dispensing technology.
In January 2011, we installed Parata Max, the leading technology for automating dispensing with high speed and accuracy. This allows the pharmacy team more time to focus on high-quality patient care and service. Parata Max fully automates the dispensing of oral solids (e.g., pills, tablets, capsules), which are typically about 60 percent of a pharmacy’s prescriptions. Max selects and labels a vial, counts the right number of the right medication and strength, caps the vial and sorts the finished prescription by patient name, all in just seconds. It takes several minutes to complete the same steps by hand.
Automated dispensing is also available for our long-term care patients and facilities.
John’s Rx is a division of John’s Pharmacy dedicated to servicing nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. We are the largest nursing home provider in Cape Girardeau, and the only pharmacy in the region to offer state-of-the-art automated blister card dispensing. The DOSIS L60 fully automates the dispensing of oral solids (e.g., pills, tablets, capsules). The machine selects a blister card, counts the right number of the right medication and strength, accurately places each pill in a blister for each day, seals and labels the card for each resident. All of this is done in a fraction of the time it takes to complete the same steps by hand, and makes prescription errors less likely. This technology also benefits our retail customers who request to have their medications dispensed in blister cards rather than bottles.
We are among the nation’s first to offer an innovative service that optimizes patient care by encouraging safe medication use.
By adding a QR code to our prescription labels, we are providing our customers with a valuable tool to become more informed about their medications. This tool provides current and useful information about their personal medications on their smartphone or tablet. Other patients may have a hard time remembering when to take their medications. For patients on both ends of the spectrum, and everywhere in between, this is a valuable tool that will increase patient awareness, compliance and overall well-being.
This service uses the latest digital technology to help us advance our primary mission of providing quality patient care. This service was a natural addition because it creates an immediate connection between you and the information you need to take your medications safely, and as directed. Whether it is at our pharmacy counter or at your kitchen counter, we want to be your trusted source of information.
The QR code on your prescription is a direct link to thousands of medication-specific videos in the MedsOnCue library. Available in both English and Spanish, the videos provide comprehensive information on top-prescribed medications, including proper usage, expected benefits and potential side effects. This helps ensure patients understand how to take their medications safely and limit any avoidable reactions.
